TEACHING FOREIGN LANGUAGES IN THE FRAMES OF GLOBALISATION

Abstract

The article considers theoretical issues of teaching foreign languages in the era of globalization and the “birth” of a global language. At this time people from different countries and nationalities are required for intercultural communication. In this regard, there are contradictions between the developing process of simplification of the English language and its culture, as well as between the process of penetration of English in the languages of other people, the mixing of cultures and the preservation of the identity of national languages and cultures. The teaching of foreign languages in secondary and higher educational institutions cannot remain traditional; we are witnessing a transformation of the whole education system, including language education. At the present stage of development of society, the process of intercultural communi- cation takes on new forms: it is widely used by a variety of electronic means of communication – e-mail, Skype, voice and video communication, social services and more. The teaching of foreign languages in the era of globalization has its own characteristics and problems: first of all, the changes of the content of foreign language teaching, methods and means of education according to the requirements of the modern society. Based on the approach of I. L. Bim in the definition of learn- ing content, the author examines the content of foreign language teaching in modern information-educational environment and the text as the basic unit of learning content in the new conditions of the Internet space. To achieve the goal of foreign language education and learners’ preparation for real intercultural communication the foreign language teachers must take into account the peculiar properties of intercultural communication and be proficient in modern communication and educa- tional technologies. Teaching of foreign languages is directly related to the innovative processes taking place in the world, in society. Modern communication technologies are developed to provide the main mission, namely, to optimize interaction and mutual understanding in human society. Today a new approach to learning foreign languages is needed. The professional competence of teachers of schools and teachers of higher educational institutions and their skills influence the formation of the foreign language communicative competence of the younger generation, the upbringing of morality, respect for another culture, successful communication and mutual understanding between peoples.
