«The advance company» in Drohobych (1874 – 1914): banking operations and zealous guardianship of the customer’s interests

Abstract
Based on the analysis of the little-known evidence of Drohobych press of the late nineteenth – the early twentieth centuries in this intelligence the attempt of the brief synthesis of the institutional development and ¿ nancial-credit activity of one of the oldest in Drohobych banks «Advance Company» (polish – «Towarzystwo zaliczkowe») during 1874 – 1914 was done. The Company was founded in 1874 under the statute con¿ rmed on March 15, 1874. One of the ¿ rst directors was Dr. of Medicine, the member of the Department of the Lviv doctors and vice-president of the Union of the credit and economic partnerships, Mr. Victor Lehovskiy. From the beginning it manifested itself not only in business and small farms, but also in powerful oil auctions, it bought a lot of oil derricks in Boryslav, Mrazhnytsia and Skhidnytsia. As it turned out the Company was intended only to lend to those borrowers who were members of the Society. Thus, the subject of the credit institution was the granting of the cash loans with moderate percentage that were necessary for the members of the Company for the circulations in their own business, farm or craft. In 1884 «Advance Company» numbered 749 members who owned the shares in the amount of 19,047zl. 53 crowns and the reserve fund amounted 2944 zl. 12 crowns. The biggest development the company has reached in the time of the administration of the burgomaster of Drohobych Yan Nieviadomskiy
