THE ANALYSIS OF SCUFFING FAILURE OF A CAV DPA INJECTION PUMP FUELLED WITH A MIXTURE OF DIESEL FUEL AND ETBE
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2013, Vol 250, Issue 4
Abstract
The paper is directed at the determination of the cause of scuffing in an injection pump fuelled with the mixture of diesel fuel and ethyl tert-butyl ether (ETBE). Based on performed theoretical studies, it was suspected that the cause of scuffing was the decrease in lubricating properties of fuel. To check it, tribological tests were performed using a four-ball apparatus. Based on the performed tests it was stated that the addition of 10% of ethyl tert-butyl ether significantly decreases lubricating properties of the fuel (by several percent). It was the main reason for premature scuffing of theinjection pump parts.
