THE BALKAN FEATURES IN THE ANTHROPONOMY OF THE BULGARIAN SETTLERS IN THE SOUTH OF UKRAINE
Journal Title: Слов’янський збірник - Year 2014, Vol 0, Issue 18
Abstract
The article examines the specifics and the methods of creating the Bulgarian settlers’ family names in the south of Ukraine. The names are also used in other Balkan languages, and therefore belong to the balkanisms. To the anthroponymic balkanisms refer family names, which have Turkish roots. They are formed а) from the kind of work (Arabadgi, Gajdargi, Dermengi, Terzi), b) from the appellatives which reflect the quality, particularities of appearance and character (Uzun, Kinchuk, Kysa, Kara,Topal), c) from the ethnonyms (Arnautov, Grekov). To the balkanisms also belong the family names with a root „iron” (Demirov, Zhelyazkov, Zhekov) and formed from the calender names Georgi, Dimitr, Todor. Under the balkanism we understand all the possible reorganization of the grammatical structure caused by qualitative and quantitative changes in the conditions of the Balkan linguistic sphere and accordingly not only the Balkan language model is taken into considerationa, but also the various reorganizations of the native Slavonic material in the Balkan linguistic environment. In the narrow sense to the languages of the Balkan linguistic union (BLU) of the first rank there belong: Albanian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Romanian, to the peripheral zone of BLU – Greek, Serbian (partially Croatian – shtokavsky dialect). The third group of the Balkan languages comprises Turkish, Slovenian, Hungarian and Ukrainian Carpathian dialects that are located geographically outside the Balkan Peninsula. Due to such language contacts there appeared balkanisms in the Bulgarian language.
