Abstract

The history of writing and edition of the first Ukrainian complete text of the Bible, the information about authors of the translation, his place and role in the Ukrainian national revival (the end of the ХІХ – the beginning of the ХХ centuries) are the object of the important scientific research. The edition of the Sacred Letter in the literary Ukrainian language in Vienna in 1903 is marked the new stage in the history of the adaptation of this prominent memorial of Christian culture in Ukraine of the whole ХХ century. The basic sources of facts in the article are researches of O. Rokickyy («The first complete Ukrainian translation of the Bible» [14]), M. Tymoshyk («A book is among books (the history of translation and edition of the Sacred Letter in Ukrainian)» [18]), where we find the information about the first complete translation of the Bible in Ukrainian and about translators. The purpose of this article is to give the integral edition history of the first complete translation of the Bible in Ukrainian, to retell the activity of P. Kulish, I. Levyckyy and I. Pulyuy on the indicated sources, to complement facts from the own research. The scientific novelty of this research consists in the integrity of the detailed, interesting, however popular, facts from the history of creation and edition of the first complete Ukrainian translation of the Sacred Letter. Results research are related to the teaching practice of the Ukrainian language and the general courses of the Ukrainian history and culture. The theoretical informations can be used for the creation of the special courses and special seminars, also for the summarizing works from the history of the Ukrainian literary language. Ukrainian translation of the Bible is the important source for the history study of the forming of dictionary composition of the literary language in the second half ХІХ – the beginning of the ХХ centuries and for the finding of the individual roles of P. Kulish, I. Levyckyy and Dr I. Pulyuy in the evolution of the stylish possibilities.
