STATUS, ROLE AND SPEECH ASPECTS OF INTERACTION OF AN ADDRESSER AND AN ADDRESSEE IN THE COMMUNICATIVE SITUATION OF PERMISSION

Abstract

In modern linguistics, the issues of addresser-addressee relations in various forms of the dialogic interaction, as well as the question of the role differentiation of the communicants in the interpersonal relationships are current and perspective. The article is devoted to the research of the features of communicative behavior of the request addresser and the subject of permission on the materials of the Ukrainian language. The purpose of the research is to analyze the status, role and speech aspects of their interaction. The research methodology is based on the use of linguistic methods such as analytical, descriptive, structural, semantic and sociolinguistic methods. In the communicative situations of permission, the speakers are in asymmetric relations. The addresser of request is in a dependent position (lower position), and the subject of permission has special rights that interlocutor doesn’t have – to allow or prohibit certain actions (higher position). An initiative and reactive expression in this situation is status-fixed, while the speech act of the request for permission is with a rising status vector of the addresser and the speech act of permission is with a falling vector. The difference between the status of the communication participants leads to a social distance and subordination adherence in relations between them. The subject of permission and the addresser of request are connected by the hierarchical relations with each other, such as «superintendent – subordinate», «senior – junior» provided that they have equal social status – «the one that has the right to give permission – the one that doesn’t have such right». Speech behavior of the participants of the communicative situation of permission aims to successful implementation of the communicative interaction. Speakers stay in asymmetrical relations, which are caused by the inequality of their situational roles. The main attributes of the request addresser is its dependence on the will of the addressee, awareness of the impossibility to carry out certain actions without permission of the authorized person. The subject of permission occupies a higher position concerning the interlocutor, and is presented as a person that regulates his behavior.
