Abstract
With the expansion of postmodernism, the theme of literary translation in literature has acquired a particular urgency. The aim of the research is to highlight the possibilities of various strategies for the artistic translation of the verbal and extraverbal explication of the character’s image on the models of works of postmodernists. The methodological basis is the scientific heritage of V. von Humboldt, the achievements of outstanding Ukrainian translation theorists in refraction to the synergetic vision of linguistic and cultural transformations of the postmodern era. Achieving this goal implies the solution of such problems as: coverage of theoretical innovations in translation studies; аnalysis of objective and subjective factors that determine the choice of the strategy of artistic translation; the disclosure of the creative nature of translation activities. The culture of postmodernism enriched Ukrainian literature with obscene lexical units, genre and stylistic constructions, memes, that give the message a national color, fill it with expression, but do not fall under any of the translation strategies – domestication or forenization in a «pure» form. From pragmatic considerations, the interpreter chooses a perlocution strategy to create the desired existential state of the reader when perceiving another culture, language. The translator uses the compilation of forenization and domestication, modernizes the work obscene vocabulary, reminiscences etc., satisfying the cultural demands of the ordinary reader. Scientific novelty consists in substantiating the illegitimacy of the assertion that the pluralism of translation strategies is inadmissible, in broadening the notion of the conditionality of the transfer strategy by objective and subjective factors; in the vision of artistic translation as an art of perlocution based on a combination of contradictory strategies that provides a synergy effect. Conclusions. Literary postmodernism raises the importance of an interpreter in creating the artistic value of a work at the parity level of both cultures and an interpreter with the author. None of the translation strategies in the «pure» form does not meet the requirements for the reproduction of the linguistic-cultural innovations of postmodernism. In the translation practice it is advisable to follow the strategy of the «golden mean» – in the understanding not as a complete renunciation of both cultures, but as their convergence. The latter provision reveals the prospects for the development of research on the problems of literary translation.
