The making the culture of picture available to blind and low vision people inspired by audio description

Abstract
Every time a person interprets the meaning of the culture he or she is experiencing, every time he or she communes with art and each exchange of impressions evoked by such experiences gives him or her a chance of full development.Vision loss or visual impairments seriously limit access to visual arts and the natural environment – and sometimes make them completely inaccessible. To hear what cannot be seen, to independently grasp what has not been uttered, blind and low vision audience could be supported with audio description. The possibilities offered by this translation method are extremely important for people with visual impairments: it makes it possible for them to overcome emotional and social barriers and gives them an opportunity to open to spiritual and intellectual values.The article discusses the term audio description and its definition, refers to the circumstances in which the art of talking pictorially originated and developed, quotes modern – conflicting – positions concerning the understanding of the essence and function of audio description, and describes the diversified population of the consumers of audio-described content.
