The plant biotechnology: An alternative for the confrontation to the impacts of the climatic change in Cuba?

Journal Title: Biotecnología Vegetal - Year 2012, Vol 12, Issue 4

Abstract

The expected impacts of the climatic change on the agricultural and forest sectors in Cuba, derived from the evaluations carried out under the First and the Second National Communication of Cuba to the United Nations Frame Convention on Climatic Change, allowed to value how plant biotechnology can be inserted appropriately in the implementation of the Agrarian Program for Confrontation to the Climatic Change, in order to propitiate the protection of the security and alimentary sovereignty of the country and at the same time, the agricultural and forest biodiversity. Also, contributing that the forest sector maintains its condition of unique net carbon drain in the country. All those facts demonstrate that the use of plant biotechnology can enhance, in an effective way, the available alternatives of adaptation.
