The relationship between cognitive distortions and psychological vulnerability with a focus on the mediating role of emotional alexithymia among students at Islamic Azad University of Yasuj

Abstract
Objective: The main objective of the present study was to investigate the relationship between cognitive distortions and psychological vulnerability with a focus on the mediating role of emotional alexithymia among students at Islamic Azad University of Yasuj. Method: A descriptive-correlational method with path analysis was used. The research population included all students at Islamic Azad University of Yasuj, of whom 118 students were selected through availability sampling as the respondents in the research sample. The instruments used to collect data were Bagby, Parker, and Taylor Emotional Alexithymia Scale, Hamamci and Buzyukozturk Interpersonal Cognitive Distortions Scale, and Mental Pathology Scale (SCL-25-R). The collected data were analyzed using Pearson correlation test and path analysis using AMOS software. Results: The results of the study showed that there is a significant relationship between cognitive distortions and emotional alexithymia and between emotional alexithymia and psychological vulnerability. It was also found that cognitive distortions and emotional alexithymia can predict the rate of psychological vulnerability. Conclusion: The results of the study support this hypothesis that cognitive distortions and emotional alexithymia can predict the rate of psychological vulnerability.
