THE RELEVANCE OF STUDYING THE COURSE «BASICS OF LIFE SAFETY AND LABOUR PROTECTION» IN HIGHER EDUCATIONAL ESTABLISHMENTS

Abstract
The author of the article clarifies the importance of teaching the discipline «Basics of life safety and labour protection» (BLS and LP) in higher education institutions (HEI). It notes the linkage with other General University disciplines, normative-legal base in the field of safety of human life, which provides on the legislative level the relevance of the teaching and its purpose. In scientific exploration it has been violated the basic problems of teaching, factors contributing to the improvement of learning material, assignments, and also the classic approaches to teaching. It has been discussed the ways to improve the teaching methods and proposed the different approach to the study of the students of the course «BLS and LP». «BLS and LP» is a field of scientific knowledge that covers the theory and practice of protecting people from dangerous and harmful factors in all areas of human activities, maintaining health and safety in the environment. All state educational standards virtually of all areas stated that when the students start training the subject «BLD and LP» they must master the following competencies as «the knowledge of the main methods of protection of production staff and population from possible consequences of accidents and disasters of technogenic and natural character». The purpose and objectives of the course are the following: to equip students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to identify dangerous and harmful factors of natural and anthropogenic origin in all conditions of its activities, to teach them properly apply the existing methods of protection from danger, to acquaint students with basic methodological approaches to forecasting the occurrence and evaluation of consequences of emergency situations.
