The role of calcium and phosphorus bionic elements in pathogenesis of aterosclerosis: lack of direct calcification of tissues and change of conformation of anticalcificating proteins

Journal Title: Медицинский альманах - Year 2016, Vol 1, Issue 1

Abstract

In this study, we investigated an ability of calcium phosphate bions to cause direct tissue calcification and change the conformation of anti-calcification proteins. Experiments in vitro and in vivo showed that calcium phosphate bions do not cause calcification of bovine and porcine pericardia and rat abdominal aorta. Circular dichroism and calcification propensity assay demonstrated that calcium phosphate bions do not change the conformation of bovine serum albumin and human serum fetuin-A. Therefore, endothelial toxicity is the only known mechanism of calcium phosphate bions pathogenicity.
