The Usage of English Borrowings in German Terminology of International Aviation Transportation

Abstract
The article deals with the usage of English borrowings in German terminology of international aviation transportation. The main task of the research is to reveal the causes and ways of English borrowings in modern German terminology of international aviation transportation and their usage in this branch. It goes without saying that huge amount of English borrowings is increasing in many spheres, namely in science, culture, computer and information technologies, business, and especially in the sphere of international aviation transportation, all the more English is one of the official ICAO languages. Borrowings are determined as an element of foreign language (a word, a morpheme, a syntactical structure etc.) and a process of elements’ conversion from one language to another. At present the term "anglicism" is in wide use by scientists to denote borrowings from English language. In German aviation terminology anglicisms are used because many English words are shorter and easier in pronunciation than German words; they are used to avoid repetitions; English terms are applied for describing different notions because German equivalents are rather complicated and verbose; and English borrowings must be used in the case of misunderstanding. The ways of English borrowings in modern German terminology of international aviation transportation are highlighted in the article, notably: direct borrowings without changing of a word meaning; terminological synonyms which can compete with German ones; mixed word formation; borrowed verbs can verify in accordance with German grammar. It’s determined that the usage of English borrowings in German terminology of international aviation transportation was caused by innovation of the USA in civil aviation.
