THE VIEWS OF PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS’ ON HANDS ON SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS

Abstract

Abstract Recent studies put forward the laboratory courses contains hands on experiments. Through the research, t he o pinions o f prospective s cience teachers’ o n h ands o n science e xperiments a nd t heir applicability were investigated. As a descriptive model, the research was conducted in Science Teaching Laboratory Course in 2008-2009 Academic year d uring the spring t erm. It was carried out with p rospective s cience t eachers s tudying in t he d epartment o f Science T eaching P rogram in the Marmara U niversity Atatürk Education Faculty. O ne h undred hands o n s cience experiments w ere applied. The first data collection tool consisted of twelve items as four likert-type and it was targeted to determine the v iews o n h ands on e xperiments. T he s econd data collection tool consisted of six open-ended questions a nd i t a imed to a nalyze t he v iews o n t he applicability of the hands on experiments. The f ormer was e valuated w ith t he f requency distribution i n S PSS p rogram and t he latter with content analysis of qualitative analysis methods. Considering the results of the research, teacher candidates expressed positive opinions about science teaching with simple tools.
