ТРАДИЦІЇ НАДАННЯ БЕЗКОШТОВНОЇ ПРАВОВОЇ ДОПОМОГИ МАЛОЗАБЕЗПЕЧЕНИМ ВЕРСТВАМ НАСЕЛЕННЯ У ВОЛИНСЬКІЙ ГУБЕРНІЇ: ІСТОРИЧНИЙ АСПЕКТ

Abstract
The paper defines the main principles of the system of providing free legal assistance in Ukraine from medieval times until nowadays. Author studies the legislation of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (the Lithuanian Statutes), the Russian Empire (The Court Statutes) and modern Ukraine (the Law of Ukraine "On Free Legal Аssistance "). The investigation is also based on the materials of the Volhyn regional courts. The main accent is done to sworn attorneys’ free legal activity in the XIX – early XX century, their practice of indigent people defense was an evidence of erudition and professionalism, discipline and willingness to help poor persons.
