Translation as domestication

Abstract
On the basis of our experience in translating some texts revolving around linguistics and philosophy of language from French and English into Arabic, we seek to answer the following question: How can we appropriate the translated text and transform it into a one of our own while remaining faithful to its content. The article argues that the identifying criterion for a successful translation lies in its idiomaticness when the target text looks as if it were written in the language into which it was translated.
