Treating A Single Kidney Diabetic Dyslipidemia Patient with Saroglitazar – A Case Study
Journal Title: Gujarat Medical Journal - Year 2017, Vol 72, Issue 2
Abstract
Residual cardiovascular risk remains a major concern with statin therapy in the management of dyslipidemia. High triglycerides (TG) has been long debated to be a major risk factor for Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and today there is growing evidence that elevated TG levels are independently associated with increased risk of CVD and acute pancreatitis. The present case involved a male patient with solitary kidney in his early thirties with dyslipidemia and diabetes. Saroglitazar was prescribed in addition to statin therapy. The patient responded to therapy and within 3 months there was a significant improvement in TG levels. This improvement remained consistent over the 18 months follow up. Additionally, a decrease in glycemic parameters was also observed. Saroglitazar was found to be safe and effective in this patient with single kidney and diabetic dyslipidemia.
