U.V. SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC METHOD FOR THE SIMULTANEOUS ESTIMATION OF HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE AND RAMIPRIL IN BULK AND ITS PHARMACEUTICAL DOSAGE FORMS

Abstract

A simple UV spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of Hydrochlorothiazide and Ramipril (Ipca Laboratories Ltd) in pure and its pharmaceutical formulations. Hydrochlorothiazide (Ipca Laboratories Ltd) exhibits ëmax at 212nm and Ramipril (Ipca Laboratories Ltd) at 226nm in methanol respectively and obeyed linearity in the concentration range of 1.25 -40mg/ml and 0.5-16 mg/ml. The proposed method was validated. Spectral and absorbance measurements were made on a thermo electron corporation double beam UV-VIS spectrophotometer by using 1 cm quartz cells. Afcoset 200A electronic balance was used for weighing the samples. Commercially available tablets of Hydrochlorothiazide and Ramipril (Ipca Laboratories Ltd) were procured from the local market and estimated. From the optical characteristics of the proposed method, it was found that the drugs obey linearity within the concentration range of 1.25-40μg/ml and 0.5-16μg/ ml for HYD and RAM (Ipca Laboratories Ltd) respectively. It was found that % RSD was less than 2%; which indicated that the proposed method had good reproducibility. The percentage recovery values of pure drug from the analyzed formulation were in between 98.156-100.011% and 98.958-100.015% for HYD and RAM (Ipca Laboratories Ltd) respectively, which indicated that the method was accurate.
