Word functioning in the text

Abstract

The article deals with the use of words in the structure of the text and their relations with other components of the text. Formal semantic and functional characteristics of a word are explained in the coherent text. The use of a word in a particular meaning, lexical repetion, synonymization, antonymization are also investigated in the text. It is proved that the transmission of the words from a language to an active vocabulary is realised in the coherent text. The use of a word in the text is a possibility of its semantic realization and every word in the text can be regarded in correlation with its separate meaning. The article makes it clear that exactly in the text the phenomena of antonymization of synonyms and their opposite phenomena of sinonimization of antonyms correlated with certain syntactic conditions as well are represented. Qualitative originality of a word in the text, its semantic boundaries are determined greatly by the associative connections in the text. In their composition appear and those, which are closely connected with components forming the meaning of a word in the aggregate but they are not main, explicit in the content of the meaning of a word or in its interpretation. Explicit components are closely connected with the development of separate meanings in the process of word derivation. The analysis confirmed that there are internal gradations of semantic connections which go beyond the bounds of synonymy and hyponymy. These connections can be based on separate components of meanings, bringing together remote words within the general system of vocabulary . The author comes to the conclusion that expressive qualities of a word developing on this basis are not the unique functional characteristic of the associative correlated words. Their repetition, as the illustrating material shows, allows to regard the separate types of associative connections as text phenomenon. In addition to the above an attention is drawn to the repetition of the same word on conditions of the wide possibilities of removal this repetition. It has been proved that the role of repetition as interphrase communication means is only a form hiding content exactness and accuracy of a word in the text, as well as eliminating a possibility or necessity of lexical replacement.
