WORLD CONTEXT OF GOGOL'S CONCEPTION ABOUT ROLE OF A WRITER AND ART

Abstract
The given article presents the analysis of a preset-day problem about the mission of a writer (modernism/postmodernism). It has gamed a special importance for the modern literary process when the struggle between two conceptions about the role of a writer has become very acute (R. Rolland, L. Aragon, A. de Saint-Exupery, M. Houllebecq, T. Mann, H. Boll, G. Grass, J. Fowles, G. Greene, E. Hemingway, W. Folkner, J. Gardnev, K.Vonnegut, M. Astourias, G. Garcia Markes, M. Asturias, M. Vargas Llosa). One conception called humanistic considers the mission and art of a writer as the way to enrich spiritual and moral features of a personality and to confirm a self-respect of a person, but the other conception used to consider the art of a writer as a play which has nothing to do with social problems. The arm of the given investigation is to find out what is in common of Gogol's conception about the mission of a writer and the role of art which the world-wide humanistic tradition which has been alive since the antique period till nowadays. In the process of investigation it was proved that the Gogol`s conception about the mission of a writer coincides mainly with the propositions formulated by Aristofanus, Goracium, Dante, by German romanticists and by prominent writers of the XX–XXI period. The scientific newness lies both in raising the problem which hadn't been investigated earlier from such a position and in giving prospective for further investigation.
