Abstract

The present study touches on pansophia, the basic category as far as the whole of Comenius’ writings is concerned. In his depiction, it was a holistic, harmo-nious program of reaching full humanity by man. In principle, pansophia was sup-posed to be universal. It was to become manifest in the three areas of reality: art, na-ture, and deity. It expressed the conviction that there are a few unchangeable univer-sal rules in the knowable world despite its diversity. The idea assumed by J.A. Come-nius was supposed to come true providing its four components were accomplished: a new language, new books, new schools and a new college. His vision was transgres-sive: it assumed a real man’s transformation into a universal, cosmic, irenecistic man.
