Abstract

Peripheral neuropathy is a set of symptoms which occur as a result of the damage of peripheral nerve and accompany various systemic diseases or form a separate nosological entity. The peripheral nerve may be affected due to extrinsic or intrinsic factors as well as the changes in the nerve itself, which may result in the impairment of its sensory, motor and neurovegetative functions. When the disorders of the peripheral nervous system are diagnosed, the therapeutic procedure will surely depend on their cause and localization. It may be surgical or conservative treatment including pharmacotherapy or physiotherapy. Neurodynamic techniques have been increasingly used for the physiotherapy of the disorders of normal neuromechanics. The review of the literature assessing the effectiveness of these techniques in the conservative treatment of the functional disorders of the peripheral motor neuron indicates that their application may have positive impact on the reduction of many subjective and objective symptoms and the functional improvement. However, due to the significant heterogeneity of the subjects, the project and research methodology it is difficult at this stage to unambiguously conclude positively or negatively in this matter. Further research aiming at the assessment of the effectiveness of neurodynamic techniques is necessary.
