A CLINICAL-STATISTICAL STUDY ON THE ANALYSIS OF THE POSTLACTEAL PLANE POINT IN CHILDREN AGED BETWEEN 3 AND 6 YEARS
Journal Title: Analele Universitatii Dunarea de Jos din Galati, Fascicula XVII, Medicina - Year 2017, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
Evaluation of statistical correlations between the sagittal occlusal relationships, analyzed in the postlacteal plane, and age in terms of temporary dentition, at a group of children aged between 3 and 6 years. The study group consisted of 126 children, aged between 3 and 6 years, who presented to a dental office in Galati for specialist consultation and treatment between 2013 and 2015, 70 girls and 56 boys. The patients were examined on the dental chair, side and front, by the dentist, with a consultation kit. When the patient’s age was very small and the patient was not cooperating enough, family members also attended the consultation. Descriptive statistics reporting the postlacteal plane to patients’ age reveals a number of 43 children (34.13%) with a straight step postlacteal plane point, with a maximal value (27 subjects) at the age of 5. 37 subjects (29.36%) have a mesialized postlacteal plane point (with a maximum of 13 patients at the age 5), the remaining 46 subjects (36.51%) being diagnosed with a distalized postlacteal plane point, with a maximum value of 18 subjects at the age of 5. The statistical correlation between age and the postlacteal plane, analyzed using the paired t-test, indicates a strong statistical interdependence between age and the position of the postlacteal plane. It is worth noting that, at the level of the study group, the postlacteal plane in straight step is found in a number of 27 patients aged 5 years and only in 2 patients aged 3. .
