Abstract

Personality is a complex and broad notion. in order to get to know a human and define their personality traits, it is necessary to look closely at numerous aspects of their behavior and ac- tivity. the milieu of musicians undoubtedly makes a peculiar group of people equipped with certain abilities and qualities enabling them to develop different sorts of artistic pursuits. still, is it justified to say that the people engaged in music professionally, and hence dealing with it since their earliest years, possess specific personality traits distinguishing them from other professional groups? in 2015, a team of academics from the Grażyna and kiejstut Ba- cewicz Academy of music in Łódź endeavored to carry out a project tackling that problem. this article is a part of that project. what makes its subject matter is the recognition of choir- masters’ personality traits, as well as other personality-related aspects of their activity such as temperament, emotional intelligence, social competences, self-assessment, narcissism and occupational burnout syndrome. the knowledge gained will not only depict a choirmaster’s psyche but also let us comprehend the principles governing the appearance of some features and the burnout syndrome. it may also, indirectly, show the type of people shaped over the course of music education and long-term, everyday contact with music, and thus lead to cer- tain evaluative conclusions in order to enhance required traits and safeguard from a potential risk of dysfunctional behaviors.
