CLEMENT OF ALEXANDRIA ABOUT SPIRITUAL EDUCATION OF HUMAN

Abstract

The article attempts to consider the early Christian doctrine of Clement of Alexandria, which substantiated the ideal of universal Christian knowledge – gnosis, by incorporating it into the structure of cognition of the natural sciences, philosophy, and theology, expanding the knowledge of the spiritual meaning of the Holy Scripture and the Holy Premonition. The worldview of Clement of Alexandria was distinguished by the superiority of intellectual motives over the moral, which was its characteristic feature as a scientist and spiritual teacher. It should be noted that in the work of «The Teacher» Clement of Alexandria tried to emphasize the significance of Jesus Christ as the Teacher, which should help to complete the gospel self-knowledge of the individual, and «hesitant soul», to rise to a higher level of worship and understanding of the doctrine of the Gnostics of the universe. Clement of Alexandria is one of the first to clearly raise the problem of correlation between faith and reason, comprehending ways to overcome antique skepticism and direct perception of knowledge. The work of the «Teacher» was to help a believer prepare himself for the perception of the Teacher's teachings, whose teachings, according to Clement of Alexandria, should be taken into account as the commandments of faith that help her form herself, transfer the acquired values and life experience to the descendants, draw near to God and gain eternal life. The article analyzes medieval doctrines about the education of a person, takes into account the modern problems of pedagogical science, namely, the forms and methods of spiritual education of a person, the content of education and upbringing, taking into account contemporary views on the relationship of faith and reason, science and theology.
