Correlation between the expression of FHL2 and PBX3 in ovarian cancer tissues and clinicopathological features

Journal Title: Journal of Air Force Medical University - Year 2023, Vol 44, Issue 5

Abstract

Objective To investigate the correlation between the expression of four and a half LIM domains 2 (FHL2) and pre-B-cell leukemia transcription factor 3 (PBX3) in ovarian cancer (OC) tissues and the clinicopathological features and prognosis. Methods A total of 63 OC patients admitted to People􀆳s Hospital of Yangjiang from June 2017 to June 2019 were selected as research subjects. The OC tissues and paracancerous normal tissues (4 cm from the tumor margin) of the patients were collected for research. The expression levels of FHL2 and PBX3 proteins in tissues were detected by immunohistochemical method, and their relationship with clinicopathological features of OC patients was analyzed. Cox regression model was used to analyze the relevant factors affecting the prognosis of OC patients. Results The positive rate of FHL2 and PBX3 protein expression in cancer tissues of OC patients was significantly higher than that in paracancerous tissues (P < 0. 05); FHL2 and PBX3 protein expression was significantly correlated with tumor differentiation, lymph node metastasis, ascites and pathological stage (P < 0. 05). The median survival time of all OC patients was 30. 75 (24. 82,36. 70) months, among which the median survival time of OC patients with FHL2 positive and negative was 17. 67 (6. 33, 29. 01) and 35. 36 (32. 30, 38. 41) months, respectively, the median survival time of OC patients with PBX3 positive and negative was 17. 01 (14. 11, 19. 91) and 33. 75 (31. 45, 36. 05) months, respectively, and the difference was statistically significant (Log rank P < 0. 05) . Univariate analysis showed that the survival time of patients with poorly differentiated tumors, lymph node metastasis, pathological stage III + IV, FHL2 and PBX3 positive expression was significantly shortened, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0. 05). Cox regression model analysis showed that lymphatic metastasis (HR = 0. 17, 95% CI: 0. 05 - 0. 53), ascites ( HR = 0. 02, 95% CI: 0. 00 - 0. 17), pathological stage ( HR = 11. 45, 95% CI: 2. 95 - 44. 49), and expression levels of FHL2 ( HR = 0. 19, 95% CI: 0. 05 - 0. 71) and PBX3 ( HR = 0. 22, 95% CI: 0. 08 - 0. 57 ) were independent factors for poor prognosis of OC patients ( P < 0. 05 ) . Conclusion The expression levels of FHL2 and PBX3 proteins in OC tissues are significantly higher than those in paracancerous normal tissues, and the expression levels are significantly correlated with the clinical features of OC patients. This study has important clinical significance for the occurrence, development and prognosis of OC.
