Covid 19 Pandemisi Sebebiyle Bağışıklık Sistemini Güçlendirme Amaçlı Tüketilen Propolis İçeren Takviye Edici Gıdaların Özellikleri ve Kullanımı

Abstract

COVID-19 was first observed in China and spread rapidly all over the world in a short time. This situation led the World Health Organization to declare the COVID-19 epidemic as a global pandemic. Given the high numbers of deaths and other types of damage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, there is an urgent need to find treatments that can potentially stop, be reliable, reduce its infectivity, and/or alleviate the symptoms of infection of the novel coronavirus. It has been determined in previous studies that the flavonoids contained in propolis have many antiviral effects, and due to its antiviral mechanism, it was seen as a component that needs to be investigated in 2019 for its usability in the rapidly spreading COVID-19 treatment process. Propolis, a natural product made by bees from bioactive plant parts and resin, has been widely used in many parts of the world for a long time, due to its immune system regulating effect and its reputation as a health-supporter. The chemical composition and biological activities of raw propolis vary according to the plant species source, bee species, environmental factors such as climate characteristics, harvest time and technique of propolis, and even the extraction liquid and method used. Determining the botanical source of propolis is very important in defining propolis and in propolis standardization studies. In general, propolis consists of polyphenols (flavonoids, phenolic acids and esters), phenolic aldehydes and ketones, etc. contains. Other laboratory research with propolis; It has been noted that it has many biological activities such as antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, antimycotic, antifungal, natiulcer, anticancer, wound healing and immune-regulating properties. Propolis extraction methods can affect the final product properties because different solvents dissolve and extract different components. The reliability of food supplements containing propolis is very important for consumers.
