Development and validation of a stability indicating UV- spectrophotometric method for the estimation of Losartan potassium in bulk and tablet dosage form
Journal Title: Journal of Pharmacy Research - Year 2008, Vol 1, Issue 2
Abstract
A simple, sensitive and reproducible stability indicating UV Spectrophotometric method has been developed for quantitativedetermination of Losartan Potassium in bulk and pharmaceutical formulations. The UV- spectrum was scannedbetween 220 to 400 nm and 227.4 nm was selected as maximum wavelength for absorption. Beer’s law was obeyed inthe concentration range of 2.02-22.22 mg/ml. Good accuracy (98.11-99.85%), precision (RSD 0.303-0.334) and selectivity(= 0.5%) were found, and the method was successfully applied to the pharmaceutical dosage form containing theabove-mentioned drug without any interference by the excipients. The method was fast and economical and it was alsoselective and sensitive for the desirable range. Results of the analysis were validated as per ICH guidelines and byrecovery studies. Stability testing study includes the effect of temperature, oxidation, photolysis and susceptibility tohydrolysis across a wide range of pH values.
