Abstract
The article presents the services and capabilities of modern libraries in relation to the knowledge and information society. It discusses how cyberspace, the Internet, computer equipment and telecommunications impact and shape the modern information sector. The paper explains the terms: information broker, information society, knowledge society, information noise, modern library, as well as presents the expectations of the library users. The paper discusses the most important elements related to the functioning of libraries: equipment, functionality, offered services, library staff skills. The author describes the most relevant services from the library users’ point of view.
