O SISTEMA DE NUMERAÇÃO DECIMAL NO ENSINO INICIALDEMATEMÁTICA: CONTRIBUIÇÕESDO ÁBACO E DO MATERIAL DOURADO

Abstract
The present article aimed to discuss the importance of abacus and golden beads material for initial teaching of decimal numeration. Through a series of reflections and theoretical research in the field of constructivism, it presents arguments which show how abacus and golden beads material help the student to build the meaning of the decimal numeration system. It also argues that these materials have the same principles and rules of the decimal numbering system: properties of addition and multiplication, use of ten digits to represent any quantity, use of the digit 0 to indicate lack of quantity in a certain order and changes made in each group of ten. It was also presented to the teachers recommendations for the correct use of the abacus and golden beads material.
