On the Comparative Study of FD/I Learning Strategies in “Gifted” and “Public” High Schools

Abstract

This present study is a comparison study of FD/I learning strategies in different genders in Arak city. It was implemented on 400 high school students to investigate the significance of Field Dependent/Field Independent learning strategies in different genders in Arak, The capital of Markazi province. Their fields of studies are natural sciences and mathematics. Totally in Arak city 4230 students study in gifted high schools, 2233 are female and 1947 are male, and 57848 students study in public high schools, 28111 are female and 29737 are male. Hajkazemi male gifted high, Haj Taghavi Nejad female gifted high school, Shokrai male public high school and Tarbiat public high school were chosen randomly. The subjects study in second and third grade half of them are male and the other half are female. The instrument used is Group Embedded Figure Test (GEFT) to understand the field dependent/field independent learning strategies of the students. The results show that FD/I in different grades is significantly different.
