Stimulated development of parents-related sensitization of children to music – based on the experiences of music institutions from Katowice

Abstract
The article discusses the question of an irreplaceable role of parents in the process of sensitizing children to music, the process being most effective when carried out through a direct parent-child interaction. Drawing on some observations from a traditional home, where music accompanied a child since their birth and where a child could hear music from the closest relatives through participation in family celebrations, there were implemented some educational projects following former models. The two Silesian institutions, organizing activities intended for children and their parents, have been described: the Academy of Music in Katowice and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra. In order to present parents’ opinions on the conducted projects in a reliable manner, a survey has been carried out among them. The analysis of the survey, despite a limited group of the interviewed, showed parents’ commitment to and awareness of their role in awakening the child’s need for a contact with music. It also directed their attention to a truly important issue of a dialogue with their child, naturally appearing in numerous music games for children.
