Abstract

The article deals with the ancient myth that plays a structural role in the poetics of Ukrainian writers at the turn of the XIX – XX centuries. The aim of this study is to generalize existing observations, to study the dialogue of the poet of this era with the classical tradition, the detailed disclosure of the author's position and the analysis of stylistic solutions, the establishment of the typology of the phenomenon. The article gives a detailed analysis of the problem of classicism in Ukrainian literature, in which it did not receive proper development in due time. Also, this analysis can enrich our understanding of the works of G. Chuprynka, M. Voronyy, B.-I. Antonych, P. Filipovich, Y. Malanyuk, in particular their relation to the classical tradition. The main idea of the articles is a comparative historical and typological analysis of a number of original Ukrainian interpretations of the classic image of the Muse. This article reports the results of a change in the character and function of the image of the Muse, which in ancient times symbolized the free poetic inspiration and the natural pathos of the blessing of being. In Ukrainian poets, there is a gradation of the growth of anxious and tragic motives, which becomes a hidden controversy with the tradition and the manifestation of the macabristic period of the era. The article is of interest to the theme of the Muse in Ukrainian lyr- ics of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries became a kind of “filling the gaps” in the national literature, in which classicism did not have time to properly develop because of the colonial state of Ukraine, its language and culture. However, this sufficiently stereotyped classicistic image is interpreted diverse and many-sided in Ukrainian poetry of mentioned epoch. It reflected the vicissitudes of the spiritual search for a creative person, and due to the era of increasing anxiety and tragedy sentiment. The article is a great help to use in the field of comparative literary criticism, as well as studying the Modern culture.
