Traitement dictionnairique des faits argotiques en français. Dimensions historique, linguistique et culturelle

Abstract

This study is devoted to the lexicographical treatment of slang in French. Its main objective is to analyse the various choices or theoretical implications that underlie typologies found in slang dictionaries. This is to show how a description object is obtained based on some previous design thanks to a description or model. Many points relating to our problems will be explained: the absence of a “unified notation” (COLIN 1990: 126) common (for the same phenomenon) to all French slang dictionaries; the presence of entries is determined by various linguistic and meta-linguistic factors; encryption and recording of “fleeting orality”; particularly the remarkable linguistic features in vogue slang dictionaries. Consideration of these issues will be supported by documented examples linguistically and will be presented in the light of various descriptive and theoretical approaches, the most important of which is corpus linguistics (abbreviated LC). After the lexicographical investigation, we will discuss in detail the usefulness of migration diachronic terms and slang expressions from one language to another. Will be raised and the differences pointed in “lexicographical use of slang in different cultures” (MONOD 1966: 12). On the basis of the corpus, the study will include five parts. Following our preliminary, methodological part, and a short diachronic survey of literature, we focus on the taxonomist perspective – typology of authors and variation in their nomenclatures (second part). Then we discuss the slang syntax, especially lexicographical microstructures. Finally, we tackle the semantic dimension of the inputs, which would define both their phonological and phonetic aspect and therefore emphasize the relevance of their rhetoric variation, in terms of language levels.
