TRENDS IN THE CREATION OF CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUNDS AS A MEDIUM FOR SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT OF A CHILD: FOREIGN EXPERIENCE

Abstract

The article presents analysis of the foreign psychological and pedagogical approaches to the design of the children’s playgrounds as developing environments for the social development of the baby. Social development is an important component of personality formation. Social development begins in the pre-school age. The quality of developed social skills determines the peculiarities of communication of a child with other children. The ability to communicate, to work in team, to be initiative and responsible will help to make a career in the future. Creating conditions for the social development of the child is the high-priority sector in the pre-school education. The experts that are in charge of the pre-school children education, have to take into account all the factors that impact the socialization. A children’s playground is the environment in which the communication between children takes place. The observations of the children’s play in playgrounds in our country made it clear that usually it’s the functional play that’s going on, in other words, children use the play equipment according to its direct functions: they slide down the slides, climb the climbers, swing on the swings. The competitiveness prevails in the communication between children – «who is faster», «who is higher». The analysis of the Ukrainian books showed that the requirements documents lack the definition of «a playground» and it’s functions are not definted there. Other approaches to the creating children’s playgrounds are practiced around the world. The experts think that the important functions of the playgrounds are: does the playground help to develop child’s self-sufficiency, independence, cooperation; does it provide the freedom of choice of playing activities and communication forms, the possibility to exper- iment? The long-term observations of the children’s play and the studies of children’s needs underlie the international standards of the construction of playgrounds. In foreign countries, the playgrounds in form of adventure parks, where children are free in their actions, are popular. Constructing the adventure parks has a long history.
