Un argot inconnu et presque oublié : l’argot-Baille

Journal Title: Argotica - Year 2015, Vol 0, Issue 1

Abstract

This paper reveals an unknown argot (French slang). [In France] anybody heard about argot, forgetting – or rather not knowing –, an “s” should be added, for practically as many argotS as trades do exist. Whatever its level, argot is a technolect but also a sociolect Marc Sourdot summed up as jargot [< jar(gon) + (ar)got]. Thus do we learn that, as any argot, the argot-Baille (French Naval Academy slang) from the nickname cadets (“bordaches”) give the old vessel Borda, used as training school afloat –, is economic, ludic, cryptic and closely linked with their identity.
