Abstract

The National Program for Access to Technical Education and Employment (Pronatec) was created in 2011, to expand, interiorize and democratize the offer of professional and technological education courses in the country. This study aims to analyze the reasons that led to the evasion of students enrolled between 2012 and 2014 in the Initial and Continuing Education offered by Pronatec, at IFRN Natal-Central Campus. To base the research, theoretical bases were used involving Public Policies, Professional and Technological Education in Brazil, Pronatec, and School Evasion. The adopted methodology was descriptive-exploratory research, characterized as a case study. The questionnaires were applied to 251 evaded students, to teachers and to members of the organizing committee of the Program, and searched for a profile map of these actors, as well as for data concerning the reasons for the evasion. It was found that the main factors for students’ dropout were work, lack of interest, as well as of motivation and connection with the course, and the class schedule. At the end, suggestions were presented for improvements, such as greater follow-up by the institution (recording reasons for dropout) and better criteria in the selection of candidates for the courses.

Abstract

The organizational image of an Education Institution may not be the same for each of the students in each educational segment served, so this study aimed to compare the attributes that influence the organizational image perceived by students of technical education of high school and higher education at the same Education Institution. Identifying how each of the target public served perceives the school image, whether the attributes are the same or different, enables the organization’s management to improve its performance in the market, especially in attracting and maintaining new students. After reviewing the literature, a descriptive research was developed, It is quantitative, cross-sectional, along with a sample of students of technical education of high school courses and higher education courses at the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo (IFES). To meet the proposed objective, a closed questionnaire was used, based on cognitive, functional and affective attributes discussed in the literature. These attributes are responsible for developing the image of Education Institutions. The results of this study showed that the organizational image observed by each student segment is influenced partly by the same affective attributes, but by different cognitive and functional attributes.

Abstract

The present study seeks to identify the perception of the academic community about the influence of the level of transparency of public projects with a propensity for greater interest in participation and social control. Thus, the objective of the research was to analyze the perceptions of students, professors and administrative staff of a higher education institution (HEI) on the influence of transparency of public projects in social control. The research was exploratory quantitative, and the study was based on two stages. At the first, we sought to identify possible theoretical relations between transparency and social control in public projects. At the second, the empirical part of the research was developed seeking to identify the perception of the university community of the State University of Rio Grande do Sul (UERGS) regarding the influence of the transparency of public projects in social control.The research was quantitative and for convenience, we applied a questionnaire to the students, administrative staff and professors of the University. Data collection was performed through a survey with 290 applied instruments. The empirical evidence of the study points to a high importance of transparency, low transparency of current public projects and low participation in social control. We also found evidences that a low level of transparency in current public projects influences a propensity for low participation in social control.

Abstract

The objective of this work is to analyze the perception of students, tutors and professors regarding the interaction established between them in a distance education course. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, with course coordinators (6), face-to-face tutors (8), distance tutors (2) and students (24) of the Business Program offered by the Federal University of Santa Catarina, through The Brazilian Open University System. Regarding data analysis, content analysis precepts of Bardin (2004) were used. The results indicate that interactions occur in person and virtually and that students consider their interaction with other students and with tutors as satisfactory, however, with professors, this satisfaction tends to decrease. In addition, there are evidences that interaction can affect students’ performance and their permanence in the course, especially in the first semesters.

Abstract

Knowledge management, competency management and organizational learning represent elementary management practices in the process of improvement and innovation of organizations that are not watertight, and those are decisive factors for the acquisition of a competitive advantage. This article aimed to present the use of the life history method in organizational learning processes to report the success of the manager of one of the largest car dealers in the state of Santa Catarina, as well as to analyze the learning processes identified from the reports of the manager and some strategies implemented in order to achieve business sustainability. The study consists of a qualitative research approach, using the case study method. Due to its objectives, it is classified as descriptive. To collect the data, a semi-structured interview was used with the manager of the business group. Through the analysis of the studies, it was observed that the life trajectory of the manager is permeated by both tacit and explicit learning. The research results point to some of the manager’s learning sources, such as the university, extension courses, fairs and workshops in which she participated, but also her own life experience and the conflictive and uncomfortable situations that, according to reports, were key points for the generation of knowledge and success in her career, reflecting her way of doing business management and implementing business strategies.

Abstract

Cooperatives live a peculiar moment, due to the need to adapt, innovate and survive the new economic-social scenario. However, the management of cooperatives has a complicating factor: the tendency to seek concepts, techniques and models of mercantile companies to solve the challenges of the cooperative. However, cooperatives are not mercantile companies. Among the needs that involve the survival and competitiveness of cooperatives is the way they structure innovation management. Thus, the result of the present research is a model of innovation built under the prism of cooperativism.

Abstract

Innovation is on the agenda in contemporary organizations, but it is creativity that precedes it. Both innovation and creativity do not occur without the presence of an entrepreneur, and such topics are discussed in this paper. In common sense, people think that entrepreneurs use methods for the creation of ideas and processes in order to manage innovation. This research presents a result that questions that. Most respondents do not use methods or are not aware of them. It is perceived that this type of study meets a certain lack of studies dealing with the pre-operation phase of the company, in which business models are usually conceived. This analysis contributes to that discussion, since the visions of disruptive and prominent entrepreneurs in their respective areas of activity are presented.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the influence of consumer-to-consumer in the status consumption of teenagers. To achieve this purpose, we performed a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional analysis. Data were obtained using a questionnaire administered to 1,197 students, aged between 14 and 19 years old, from a federal education institution. The results showed that consumer-to-consumer did not affect status consumption. Moreover, brand, price, fashion, materialism, sensitivity to prestige and normative issues influenced positively status consumption, while informational issues impacted it negatively. These results suggest that consumption for status by teenagers are on average associated with the need to achieve social status, admiration and prestige in order to meet the expectations of their group.

Abstract

This text analyzes the perception of coordinators and professors on the interdisciplinarity in the Interdisciplinary Project (IP) in undergraduate courses of a private higher education institution in Minas Gerais – Brazil, based on the established in the Curriculum Guidelines of the courses analyzed. Faced with a scenario of deep technological transformations with implications in the world of work, it is not enough to have specific knowledge of an area; there is a need to improve the systemic vision of future professionals with the integration of knowledge from different areas. With a qualitative approach and descriptive research, the theoretical foundation explored the concepts of discipline and interdisciplinarity. Open interviews were carried out with eight professors, two of them are coordinators of different HEIs, and six professors from two HEIs, in four different campuses and from different courses, all with a vast experience in teaching the discipline of “Interdisciplinary Project” in the HEI of the educational organization researched. The interviews were recorded, transcribed and analyzed. The data were organized into analysis categories distributed as follows: 1 - Concepts and objectives 2 - Strategies and methodology; 3 - Relevance; and 4 - Problems/difficulties. The results allow to conclude that the coordinators and the professors intend to promote a dialogue between the disciplines, but they do it through a multidisciplinary methodology, and not an interdisciplinary one.

Abstract

Higher education is a vast subject, of several fruitful debates that foment the field of study relative to university management, and for this reason there are several approaches that sustain the dialogue in this space. Evaluation, in this context, has been discussed from the perspective of its polysemy, in order to establish standards that are legitimate and observed by the most diverse institutional models. The purpose of this essay is to discuss, from the point of view of institutional evaluation, the ways in which the National System of Higher Education Evaluation – SINAES has been proposing formal and political elements that contribute to fostering quality in this space. The text is expected to be a contribution to those who seek to better understand the relationship between evaluation, management and quality.

Abstract

Teaching through lovingness consists of stablishing, as a primary objective, teaching practices, through affective relationships with students, building respect in a collective and not superimposed way, thus, allowing for a pleasant teaching in an enjoyable and pleasant school environment, being the learner the protagonist of the process. This study aims at analysing faculty profiles through interviews whose questions are related to affective education in order to understand how teachers of different levels of education can be qualified as lovingness teachers (Affective and reflective), through personal reflections on the teaching practice. The analysis comprehends interviews with 140 teachers of various teaching institutions, through objective questions and harmonious experience stories with some students, which show that, to some extent, most of the faculty members fit into an affective educational category. The various reports point out meaningful findings related to teacher-student affectionate interactions. The stories that show most affective bonds occur in the childhood, thus, it indicates the importance of teaching development related to affection in all levels of education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the theme History of Accounting is taught in Brazilian Higher Education Institutions. The research of qualitative approach analyzed the programs and menus available on the website or made available by e-mail, in the period from October to December 2017, of 27 educational institutions recommended by CAPES, as well as their respective undergraduate courses. The offer of specific courses on history of accounting is quite scarce, being the course presented in only 4 undergraduate programs and in 2 graduate programs, where only the undergraduate programs of PUCRS and UFU present the course as mandatory. Regarding the provision of content in courses with other denominations, it was verified the massive supply of courses about Accounting Theory. Although some misalignments were observed in the supply of content between graduate and undergraduate studies, the general assessment indicates a satisfactory degree of alignment between the two levels according to the evaluation metrics of CAPES. Ten study themes in History of Accounting were listed and the research identified the approach of subjects related to 9 of these themes.

Abstract

In the current Brazilian economic scenario, banks play the role of agents of development of society, with high competitiveness of the sector. With increasingly demanding customers, these organizations are driven by the search for differentials that are manifested not only in their marketing products, but mainly in the quality of delivery of services and in the value generated by their offerings. Thus, the present research had as its objective to measure the satisfaction in the delivery of the value proposal to the members of a credit cooperative, especially in relation to trust, excellence in service, corporate social responsibility, word of mouth / indications and loyalty to the institution. The method of research regarding the nature of the data is quantitative, with research of type survey carried out with the associates of the institution. In addition, this is a descriptive research work, since it seeks to discover and analyze the satisfaction experience of the associates and of the analyzed variables. The results indicate that, in general, the items analyzed are at an adequate level of satisfaction, and even above the average satisfaction of the financial market.

Abstract

In face of the economic context, based on uncertainties and surrounded by competition with regard to globalization, various effects on the visibility of new opportunities and threats can be noticed. Given this, there is a need to keep the focus on the customer and their loyalty as an alternative to remain in the market. The overall objective was to propose after-sales actions for retention and customer loyalty. It is appropriate to approach this subject with the aim of showing to the companies that the sale does not end after the payment and the supply of goods purchased, but that there is much work to be done after this, a factor that leads companies to deal more with the client, and leads customers to value companies that demonstrate this concern. The problem that we sought to resolve: what are the most appropriate after-sales strategies for competitive advantage? The theoretical frame of reference covers concepts of marketing, relationship marketing, customer satisfaction and loyalty, after-sales actions and competitive advantage. The methodology used was the case study, in order to understand the reality of the company regarding after-sales actions, through an interview with the manager, as well as a survey with the customers of the organization. The main results of the survey pointed out that customers have a high level of exigency with respect to the subject; on the other hand the company object of study does not have a structured system oriented to after-sales actions.

Abstract

This exploratory-descriptive study aims to identify the importance-performance attributed by managers who work with administrative technicians graduated from the SENAC-ES course. The study then analyzes the relevance attributed to the competencies foreseen in the training versus the evaluation of the practical performance of these graduates. Managers of companies in the metropolitan area of Vitória-RS participated in this survey. The questionnaire was structured in two parts. The first part characterizes the respondent and their company. The second part addresses the relevance and performance perceived in relation to the expected competencies of the professional graduated by SENAC- ES. The data were analyzed from the importance-performance matrix developed by Slack (1993). The results show that managers attribute more importance to the attributes of competencies than to their development by the administrative technicians. In addition, three attributes are in a situation that requires urgent attention, which are: critical sense, specific knowledge in the position and broad vision of business.
