This study aims to analyze the reasons that led to the evasion of students enrolled between 2012 and 2014 in the Initial and Continuing Education offered by Pronatec, at IFRN Natal-Central Campus. To base the research, theoretical bases were used involving Public Policies, Professional and Technological Education in Brazil, Pronatec, and School Evasion. The adopted methodology was descriptive-exploratory research, characterized as a case study. The questionnaires were applied to 251 evaded students, to teachers and to members of the organizing committee of the Program, and searched for a profile map of these actors, as well as for data concerning the reasons for the evasion. It was found that the main factors for students’ dropout were work, lack of interest, as well as of motivation and connection with the course, and the class schedule. At the end, suggestions were presented for improvements, such as greater follow-up by the institution (recording reasons for dropout) and better criteria in the selection of candidates for the courses.
