Abstract

Th e Geographic Information Systems (GIS) allow users to explore possible spatial relationships between data, and create scenarios according to their interests. During the elaboration of the Management Plan of Preservation Areas (PAs) of the Rio Grande Industrial District, eight data layers were inserted in on GIS and used in the characterization and spatial assessment as well as in helping management decision making. Th e usefulness of GIS in this case is demonstrated, besides others factors, by the possibility of correcting erroneous or inadequate spatial limits of PAs. Th is includes the reduction of certain PAs, to be compensated in some other areas, more advantageous under the environmental and industrial administration point of view, which is only possible through GIS-based procedures of overlaying spatial data. Th e use of GIS in this study was of particular help as an intermediary between researchers, industrialists, and the state environmental agency, which is responsible for the environmental licensing of the Industrial District.

Th is article will explore how to work with the three elements of CHA (Conhecimento, Habilidade e Atitude, knowledge, ability and attitude) to identify the right competences in staff structuring and also to obtain the managers and their groups’ maximum performance in order to achieve positive results in the implemented projects.

Abstract

Informal learning has always been part of humankind. However, like an iceberg, most of it is submerged and invisible. Only recently has it started to be noticed by researchers, employers, community organizations and educational institutions. Paraphrasing Jules Verne, we are now in the fi rst twenty leagues of a long journey that may be as long as twenty thousand. In this quest for knowledge about informal learning, we have to address four main challenges. Th is article discusses key issues in relation to these challenges.

Abstract

Th e transformation of the world and the Brazilian economies into service economies is changing the traditional processes of service innovation. In particular, there is a growing need of systematic innovation in services based on science and technology. In this paper, we do a basic review of the current status of Service Science in the world and in Brazil. Service Science is the discipline that studies services and service systems, which shows that education and research in services is still a very fragmented and incipient activity. In this context, we point out the strategic need of education policies for professionals and scientifi c-technological policies for the funding and the development of Service Science in Brazil. We also discuss opportunities for Brazil’s leadership in the area, fostered by many demographic, economic, and cultural factors.

Abstract

Th is paper analyzes the characteristics of the technicist education supported by mechanistic and positivist principles and their contradictions in the education process having its objectives aimed at human formation. It also examines some conceptions and sources of thought that justify or contradict with a humanizing education, making thus the counterpoint between education for formation and training, between the educator and the one who just transfers information. It also analyzes the origins of the discussion about the curriculum and its subordination to the taylorist-fordist scientifi c administration model as the one of the grade system school organization. Following this, some knowledge guidelines are set and some methodological ways for an articulation between school and social contexts are pointed out, indicating thus the structure of the cycles of formation as a possibility for the teaching process organization in order to comprise the conceptions and practices which make the inclusion through the learning process possible.
