MIDLEWARE PARA UM SISTEMA DE AGÊNCIA DE VIAGENS

Abstract

This paper shows a new architecture for a travel agency system. Th e current system has some scalability problems that the new proposed architecture intends to solve. Th ese problems are mainly related to the excessive use of threads, cost system scalability, overload of the database and limitation of resources per customer. All these limitations have a direct infl uence on the response time and consequently the overall system performance is aff ected. For the employment of this new proposed architecture, which aims to solve the mentioned problems, we, initially, analyze diff erent middleware technologies that could optimize the functionalities of the system. Following the analysis of these technologies, we chose three technologies (ActiveMQ, Memcached and Tokyo Cabinet) based on the characteristics of the system. Th ese technologies were chosen after a thorough study, throughout a series of performance tests. Furthermore, to verify whether the chosen technologies would behave in accordance to the expected for the new architecture, a new series of tests that combined the three middleware technologies was performed.

Abstract

Th e current technological context confers deep changes in politics, economy and social relations, and the ubiquity of computing is one of the main vectors for the spread of this transformation. Computer systems are increasingly infi ltrated into the daily lives of people, and this presence often occurs in a “silent” and imperceptible way. Consequently, we live in an era of changing concepts and impermanence, occasioned by the “explosion” of technology around us. We are moving onto a situation in which computer science and, accordingly, communication through electronic devices will be omnipresent. Th e graphic design is, evidently, at the extent of this interference, and mutant brands, that change visual identities which modify their shape, typography or color in several situations of use, are the clearest expression of this modifi cation. Th is article describes the extent the current technological situation promotes the development of these visual identities as a dynamic and fl exible response to a context of technological features also changing.

Abstract

Th e present study aimed to evaluate the impact of brand on consumer preferences for chocolate milk. We conducted a quasi-experiment, through which the constructs related to brand loyalty, perceived quality, OBE and purchase intent were assessed. Th e survey took place in November 2011, in the city of Caxias do Sul/ RS, with 197 respondents and non-probability convenience sample. Th e main consideration was the authors’ understanding of the eff ectiveness of the brand eff ect on the preference of the consumer’s choice, given that the image created often overlaps with the performance of the product itself.

Abstract

This paper presents a study based on the book: Historia Universal de las Joyas, a través del Arte y la Cultura, authored by Margarita Wagner de Kertesz, published by Centurion, 3770 Calle Belgrano, Buenos Aires, Republica Argentina, 1947 whose edition was exhausted in 1947. In this study, we carried out the translation of the pre-historic culture and update information from the perspective of contemporary jewelry. At fi rst, we discuss, the adornments on the Paleolithic era in its various styles and techniques and, subsequently, the Neolithic, its history and body ornamentation.

Abstract

This paper attempts to describe and conceptualize what simulations are and in which way they diff er from digital games. We focus on business simulations used in business undergraduate courses or MBAs. We also describe diff erent types of simulations according to several authors, regarding structural aspects, as well as goals and simulation process. An historical analysis of the use of simulations shows its growth as a pedagogical tool in management courses. Th is analysis also includes a description of the ways in which simulations are used, including pedagogical needs and possible dynamics for the teaching-learning process. We detail both the steps for using simulations and the professor’s educational role in this process.

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to reflect on teacher training in the field of federal institutes of education, science and technology, addressing the main aspects of this kind of preparation and discussing the limits, challenges and possibilities presented in the context of these new institutions. Teacher training is in the hall of objectives proposed to federal institutes and we notice that, in general, there are still several barriers to be overcome in order to promote qualified training. On the other hand, we verify that these institutions, due to their characteristics, peculiarities and especially to their tight bond with basic education, may become a very fruitful place and contribute to teacher qualification, whether to work in basic or professional education. However, in order to do so, it is necessary to refine the essential aspects involved in teacher training, so that federal institutes may succeed in the implementation of actions consonant with the guideline elaborated to this area throughout the last decade.

Abstract

Based on the novels by the British author Barbara Cartland, this paper examines the idealized feminine dressing through the 19th century fashion. Cartland idealized types, wearing romantic dresses which were very different from the 1980 women focused on their professional life and wearing masculine suits with shoulder pads. These idealized types were studied to confirm that the way of dressing presented by Cartland were in conformity with the styles and changes of the fashion during the 19th century. For this analysis, different chapters and parts of seven books were selected and compared to the descriptions presented by well- -known authors.

Abstract

This study contributes to the importance in the purchase decision of the products in the Public Market of Porto Alegre / RS, Brazil, specifically those with olfactory sensory experiential characteristics. Currently the use of olfactory marketing as a sales tool is still not widely used. Studies have showed that part of it is the lack of knowledge of the subject, the use and the benefits that this can bring new gimmick to attract customers. This study is done through library research, environmental analysis and interviews with owners of stalls and customers of the site. The idea is to identify the role of olfactory sensory marketing establishments in the Public Market of Porto Alegre, which brings a variety and diversity of flavors in the same location. The case study research investigates the following proposition: can the identity of the olfactory Public Market in Porto Alegre / RS explain the attractiveness factor of over one hundred thousand customers daily? To answer that question, it was verified that the use of smell as a marketing strategy in the Public Market is more closely linked to that magic mix of flavors adds value to consumers than itself a selling tool, by traders and shop owners.

Abstract

The present article brings an outline of a dissertation entitled “Pedagogical practices in virtual learning environment: possibilities of innovation”, presented at University of the Caxias do Sul in the Postgraduate Education Program and Master of Education on May 13th, 2011 and guided by Professor Dr. Eliana Maria Smith of Sacramento. This research is divided into an introduction and four chapters: I- The theoretical foundation: base of a construction; II- The path of search: construction of the route; III - Evidence for a new pedagogical practice, and IV- Final Remarks. The study main objective was to examine the records of teachers from a private school in Bento Gonçalves City (RS) during the final years of Elementary and High School levels analyzing how they used a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and discussing possible future changing in their teaching practices. The records were collected from the school VLE space during a 40 hours training course. The dissertation found that changes in the teaching practices are possible and can be revisited by teachers who are concerned on innovate their practices tied to technological resources. It also served as indicators for schools actions.

Most students have difficulties to create a fashion collection based on a method. Some students believe that the use of a methodology might block creativity. However, the truth is that by applying a specific method people gain confidence and objectivity during the creation process. The present article discuses the adaptation of Bruno Munary method in the teaching of Fashion Collection classes.

Abstract

The survey aimed to compare and analyze whether the process of planning a menu for a hotel restaurant and a conventional restaurant is developed by studying the variable reported by well-known authors in the field. This research also verifies if the factors that determinate a menu are actually implemented and followed during the planning process. The data was collected through a pre-structured interview made in two restaurants (hotel and convectional). In order to analyze this data, it was created an analytical model, based on theory and presented in this paper. The results showed that the two establishments take all the necessary steps to reach a well-designed menu. The differences found in the research were in relation to how each restaurant works with each of these steps.

Abstract

Las nuevas formas de vivir, producir, relacionarse, aprender, vivir en la sociedad contemporánea requieren que las instituciones educativas actualicen, revisen sus paradigmas, repiensen sus prácticas y formas tradicionales de educar y aprender. Sin embargo, al igual que otras organizaciones, los cambios están anclados en nuevos modelos de gestión. Una nueva escuela es el resultado de una gestión renovada, de dirigentes dispuestos a dar las condiciones para los cambios que este tiempo exige. Este artículo se encuentra en este momento, en que los cambios se hacen necesarios en la educación, pero resalta una dimensión que pasa a través de los tiempos de cambio: la humanización de las organizaciones, en especial, de la gestión escolar.

Abstract

This article aimed to report the experience of eight companies in Pelotas / RS that hired and managed people with special needs - PWSN. A semi-structured questionnaire with open questions was applied to the eight managers in public and private companies. These managers were questioned about the practices used in the admission of people with special needs, about the infrastructure, integration into the group of employees, change management, benefits to hire a PWSN. This work aims to provoke thoughts about the processes that involve the inclusion of professionals with some kind of special need, whether physical or intellectual, in today’s organizations. The emphasis is in the development and management of talent in the group. The results showed difficulties in attracting and finding qualified PWSN professionals. They also proved that organizations are open to train and manage those people who need opportunities and infrastructure to develop and demonstrate their talents.

Abstract

Este artículo aborda el rol del profesor de este nuevo siglo, sus prácticas e desafíos. Su objetivo es provocar la reflexión sobre las crecientes demandas del día a día y la actitud del docente frente a los desafíos de la clase. Con este fin, la contemporaneidad es brevemente contextualizada a través de las ideas de BAUMAN (2001). A partir de las contribuciones de PRAIA et al. (2001), SANTOS (2001), MOREIRA (1992, 1999) y SANTOMÉ (1996), el actual currículo escolar se analiza. A continuación, el papel del profesor como recontextualizador del discurso pedagógico se discute, y este debate se realiza sobre la base de los conceptos de BERNSTEIN (1996, 1998). Así, al analizar las formas de producción y reproducción del discurso pedagógico, es posible repensar el rol del profesor del siglo XXI y le ofrecer la oportunidad de decidir si su participación será a de protagonista o de mero coadyuvante en los cambios que las escuelas deben hacer para servir a los ciudadanos de este siglo.

Abstract

This paper aimed to analyze mobile games that are available for mobile phones, smatphone and tablets, in a way that was possible to inventory their strengths and to suggest ways to adapting them for use in the classroom. For the study, we analyzed the games Angry Birds and Puzzle Quest, since they are famous in their own contexts and well known to the public. The use of mobile games in the classroom is stimulating; therefore, there is no need to develop a specific game to each class contents.
