Abstract

Objective: The evidences indicated that nutrition affects intelligence quotient (IQ) in different growth stages. Although some investigations have been done on the relationship between dietary patterns, micronutrients and IQ, there is limited data on this relationship. Therefore, the current research was intended to study the relationship between dietary patterns and non verbal IQ among school age girls. Methodology: using random sampling method, the current cross- sectional study selected 375 girls from primary schools in Tehran. Body mass index, height and weight of all children were measured. One hundred-forty-seven-item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) was applied to assess dietary patterns. IQ was evaluated by Raven’s standard progressive test. The relationship between dietary patterns and non verbal IQ were assessed using multiple regression analysis. Results: Only healthy dietary pattern scores were significantly related to IQ and no significant association was found between the highest and the lowest tertiles of unhealthy and semi-unhealthy dietary patterns scores with non-verbal IQ. This study also indicated a significant positive correlation between non verbal IQ and height (?= 0.12, P=0.02) but we didn’t find a significant correlation between healthy dietary pattern and non-verbal IQ (?=-0.06,-0.09, P= 0.28, 0.11). Conclusion: According to the results, the dietary patterns didn’t affect on non-verbal IQ. On the other hand, only height was positively related to non-verbal IQ and this supports the fact that the verbal intelligence is more influenced by food quality and dietary patterns than non-verbal intelligence.

Abstract

Species diversity is considered as an index to compare the ecological conditions of forest ecosystems. This study aims to preserve biodiversity by considering 60 plots with an area of 316 ha in Darabkola forest, which was conducted by systematic randomly sampling and grid dimensions of 150 ×200 m in two ways of circular and transects (1000 m2) methods. Characteristics such as species type and diameter of trees were recorded. The results showed that there were significant differences between these two methods in terms of species diversity and richness indices in the tree layer; however, the evenness index showed no significant difference between the two methods. In addition, according to the maximum value of species relative importance (SIV), the most suitable indices for evaluation in the study area were diversity index of Shannon-Wiener, richness index of Menhinic and evenness index of Hill 1.

Abstract

For a wide range of reasons it is becoming more and more evident that Climate Change takes part in destabilising societies and creating a threat to the security of states all over the globe. One example where the development of acknowledging this can be reviewed is the history of the European Security Strategy (ESS). Understanding that Climate Change serves as a facilitator for instability of states, participating in creating reasons for migration and radicalisation, may eventually lead – from the side of professionals from the field of security policy – to pressure towards a more progressive climate protection policy framework and an adjustment in other policy fields, thus creating unusual coalitions. Also for this the ESS may create a first example.

Abstract

This study was designed to meet the requirements of effective curriculum in higher education from the perspective of complex adaptive systems with a strategic approach. Higher education as a source for science and technology transformation, in an attempt to improve the quality and sustaining its meaningful survival, is obliged to continue adaptation and alteration with existing and emerging circumstances, development and, if necessary, transforming basically. To implement goals and missions, Higher education as a complex adaptive system is inevitable of providing maximum internal, external and institutional effectiveness. The findings suggest that curriculum to achieve this prominent goal should adopt a strategic approach. That is, for further adaptability, it could be able to provide capability of strategic response, and hold strategic change proportionate to it in order to achieve strategic success. In this regard, the curriculum as a whole and each of its elements (objectives, content, teaching methods and evaluation ...) should have the flexibility and agility for responding, changing and strategic success. On the other hand, the effectiveness of the curriculum in three dimensions of internal, external and institutional would act as a curriculum strategic success criterion in a learning strategic environment including higher education.
